As I type this entry, I am suffering from the following ailments: a head cold, a runny nose, a sore knee, a lost voice and a missing toenail. I am in my bed surrounded by snotty tissues, my "Future Trophy Wife" mug (thanks Des) filled with chamomile tea, and my soft blankets. Suffice it to say, the past two weeks of training have not gone smoothly. If I ever want my abs to be as cool as they were when I was in Miami (picture at left), I need to get my life right. Here is a breakdown of my crazy fortnight.
Week 4 was a 3,6,3,11 week. This was also the week that an Earthquake and a Hurricane hit my area. And the Ravens played the Redskins in Baltimore (the girls and I went to the game). And I cooked a big dinner (chicken vaca frita, arroz, frijoles, salsa, aguacate) one night and went to the movies another night. Therefore, I missed both of the 3's and did not do any cross-training. Sigh.
2 Missed runs so far: two 3 milers
Week 5 was a 3,6,3,12 week. This was also the weekend of the Baltimore Grand Prix. And Labor Day. Luckily, one of my 3-mile runs was the Grand Prix 5K. Not so luckily, I think I injured my knee doing flips off the diving board at the pool at CG & JP's house on Labor Day Eve. I got my cross-training in on my first day back teaching Cardioboxing for the new semester. But, I missed my 12-mile run because my knee did not allow it. I was dressed and on the treadmill and everything. But I could not physically get any farther than one mile. Sigh.
3 Missed runs so far: two 3 milers, one 11 miler
And now I am at Week 6. My knee finally feels better. I can walk without a diddy bop and I don't have to ice it at night. I did my 3-mile run today (after teaching Cardioboxing... cross training done), so I am on track for this week. BUT, I feel like poo. I hate having a cold and I hope that the get-well measures that I am employing tonight will pay off tomorrow. I need to be able to do my 6-mile run tomorrow after a 10-hour workday (making up for Labor Day and the office being closed). And then I am displacing the 9-miler for Saturday in exchange for my lost 12-miler in an attempt to get myself back on track.
Sigh.
I have devised a system to "make-up" my runs. For every run that I miss, I have to register for and run a race of comparable length. Por ejemplo, I am making up one of my 3-milers by doing a 5K in a few weeks. I am making up my displaced 9-miler by doing a 10-miler on September 25th.
To end on a positive note, the Grand Prix 5K was my BEST 5K EVER. I ran it in 27:36. That's an 8:54 mile. Whaaaaaaaat?! Who the hell am I with that really fast time? Go me!!
Okay, I just chased 2 Nyquil geltabs with a shot glass full of liquid Nyquil. Bottoms up! I am about to be knocked outzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
